Jack Flower, Shaniek Parks, Sydney Rose and Oliver Spacey were nominated for the studentships by fellow members at Linacre. The prize, which carries a stipend of £500, is awarded only when the Governing Body feel that a student has made a contribution to College life that is sufficiently outstanding to merit this recognition.

Shaniek who is studying for a DPhil in Population Health said;

“The secret to enjoying life at Linacre is to get involved! Since joining the college in 2022, I’ve been elected to the Common Room Committee as Linacre Lines Editor and Linacre Student Union Representative. This year, I’ve also co-organised Linacre’s North American Black History Month event in collaboration with the Linacre African Network and the Welfare Officer. I am deliberate about getting involved because our graduate community offers a wealth of experiences and opportunities to build life-long friendships.”

Ollie is studying for a DPhil in Environmental Research and has been active in supporting student welfare at Linacre. He says;

“I’ve loved being a part of the Linacre Welfare team for the last couple of years. Thank you to all the staff and students in our vibrant community for making my time as Welfare Officer so rewarding.”

DPhil Cancer Science student, Jack, has been a key part of the Common Room Executive Committee for several years. This year, he took on the role of Common Room President and also became a trustee of the College when Linacre was the first Oxford college to amend its governance structure to include a Board of Trustees.

Sydney is the outgoing President of the Boat Club and has played a vital role in campaigning for action against river pollution and raising the profile of rowing at Linacre. She says of the studentship;

“To me, this award is not just a personal achievement but a testament to the collective effort and passion of everyone involved in Linacre Boat Club.”
