The Femtech Society aims to promote understanding of the health gap and to encourage engagement with and discussion of intersectional technology-based solutions for the health and wellness of women and gender minorities across Oxford. The industry tackles both health issues that disproportionately or differently effect women and non-binary individuals – for example mental health, patient advocacy, and work-place wellness as well as devising solutions for challenges that can arise from having a female reproductive system such as endometriosis and polycystic ovarian disease.

The collection of new books is part of an initiative that was developed and curated by the President of the FemTech Society, Christiane Hagel, who said;

“Expanding the FemTech Book Collection across Oxford libraries, including Linacre, was always a mission after its first implementation at Green Templeton College for International Women’s Day in 2024. Seeing just a year later, that other colleges support this initiative and the number of borrowed books being high is a real testament to the growing importance of updating women’s health and a recognition of FemTech as a crucial area of study.”

Librarian, Laura Unwin, is grateful to the Femtech Society for this brilliant addition to the library and keen to continually expand College collections to reflect the diverse needs of our interdisciplinary and international community. She said;

“Thank you so much to the Oxford FemTech Society for donating a series of books on women’s health to the Linacre Library. They are a valuable addition to the collection and will help highlight the issues faced by Linacre students in this currently under-represented area.”

The books will be displayed in the glass cabinet in the lobby before they find their permanent home in the Linacre Library.
