Ore Disu has led the Museum of West African Art (MOWAA) Institute in Benin City, Nigeria, since January 2022 as its first Director. Prior to this, she was the founding executive director of Nsibidi Institute, a non-profit cultural think-tank in Lagos, Nigeria and a development practitioner. She has over a decade of experience in cultural programming, research, and stakeholder management for early-stage organizations. She is a strong advocate for people-centred design, expansion of new publics, and talent development on the continent.
In her talk, Disu will discuss the Museum of West African Art, which is dedicated to the preservation of heritage, the expansion of knowledge and celebration of West African arts and culture. The MOWAA Institute is being developed as a centre of excellence, creating opportunities for African and Diaspora artists and scholars.
