Mitigating Circumstances Notice

Every student is allocated a College Advisor who is normally a Fellow of College. While most graduate students are likely to seek advice and help on both academic and other issues from their Faculty/Departmental supervisors, there are some instances where an alternative perspective can be of value. This is particularly true if a problem arises in the relationship between student and Faculty/Department or academic supervisor.

Advisors can also offer pastoral support and can explain the quirks of the organisation of the University or of life in Britain. In addition, the College Advisor may be able to offer advice on academic-related matters such as: applications for research funding, conferences and seminar attendance, publications and academic career planning. However, the College Advisor is not responsible for performing the role of Department or Faculty Supervisor(s), and is not responsible for directing academic work or giving detailed academic guidance.

Linacre College has a variety of grants available for students, whether this is to encourage academic engagement, or support students who are going through a period of financial hardship. An outline of the support available is below, with more detailed eligibility criteria and the application form.

Academic Activities: For students presenting their research at conferences.

Extracurricular Activities: for university-level extracurricular activities.

Hardship Fund: For students who have found themselves in unforeseen financial hardship during the course of their studies.

Modern Language Fast-Track Course Fee Funding: for reimbursement for up to 50% of a university run Fast-Track Language Course.
